Mauritius being a former British colony, the course of the Mauritius Gymkhana Golf Club is the oldest one in the Southern Hemisphere and the fourth oldest in the world!
Created by the Royal Navy around 1844, Mauritius is thus the third country having introduced golf, after the United Kingdom and India.
Golf course
A the beginning a 9-hole course, this veteran of the golf courses on the island - called by some the "ambassador" - was transformed in 1950 into an 18-hole Par 68 of 5326 yd.
Unique club located in the center of the island, in Vacoas, it remains an unforgettable experience because of its history. Proud to be a historic golf course, the Gymkhana awards to any golfer a certificate that he played on a course where the golf has been played since 1844!.
Despite a relatively small area, the course of the Gymkhana is in fact relatively small compared to other golf courses in the island, the course offers some difficulties and accuracy is essential. A long time restricted to members, the Mauritius Gymkhana Golf Club now opens its doors to outside people. Considered the most accessible of the 18-hole, it offers a small green fee for non-members and a solution of temporary member.
Its clubhouse, an old colonial building, is both comfortable and friendly … Welcoming players of all levels, lessons can be provided upon reservation.
